George Schmitt & Co., Inc. (GSC) was founded in 1874 as a stone lithograhper, and won its first widespread recognition by receiving an award at the 1892 Chicago World's Fair. Today, George Schmitt and Co., Inc. is a fourth generation, privately held business offering high quality rotogravure, sheet and web-fed offset, and rotary letterpress printing, finishing and converting to a wide range of demanding markets. Furthermore, the company operates two pre-press divisions which utilize the latest in desktop and Scitex equipment as well as electronic engraving to produce the printing plates which provide the vehicle for superior color reproductions.

George Schmitt & Co., Inc. prides itself on being at the cutting edge of developing graphic arts technology, and senior management is very actively involved in new product development. Four of the top six corporate managers hold engineering degrees. Notably, GSC's in-house Design Center holds one patent and has two patents pending on proprietary stamp finishing equipment. Furthermore, GSC places a strong emphasis on a quality program which is an integral part of the management decision making process. Not only is GSC preparing for ISO 9002 compliance, but there is strong commitment to employee training and team problem solving. The best gauge of the success of this management philosophy in this context is, perhaps, the consistently high number of instances in which GSC has been contacted by customers to handle specialty printing and full service graphic arts support not available in other smaller, less diverse companies.
